Steve Knight – Director

Steve worked for three years for an architectural practise before joining Newark and Sherwood District Council Building Control in 1986. He spent almost 20 years at Newark and Sherwood, progressing to the role of Principal Building Control Surveyor, before bringing his wealth of experience to Turton Building Control Ltd, joining in 2006. Steve is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. Steve has worked in both the domestic and commercial markets and has forged links with major clients in both sectors. Steve has considerable experience in large commercial developments and works throughout England and Wales.

Nicola Knight – Director

Nicola has previously run her own catering company and also has extensive experience in education. After taking a career break Nicola joined the Turton team in 2018.

Marti Waterfield – Principal Building Control Surveyor

MCABE, C Build E

Marti started in Building Control in 2009 at Newark & Sherwood District Council as a Technical Assistant. In 2012 she began her career there as a Building Control Surveyor before joining Turton Building Control and qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor. Marti has gained considerable experience in construction techniques and has an excellent knowledge of the area. She has a great rapport with builders and architects.

Vince Woods – Building Control Surveyor

BSc (Hons), MCABE

Vince joined Turton Building Control in 2007 after working for Newark and Sherwood District Council since 1995 in economic development and the Building Control Section since 2000. Vince deals with a variety of projects within the Midlands area.

Julie is originally from Nottingham. She has over 30 years of experience in a variety of administrative roles. She joined Turton Building Control in 2006 and is the person that makes sure everything runs smoothly. She is a popular person on the telephone and is always happy to help.

Michelle Archer – Admin Assistant

Michelle previously worked as an Account Manager for a textile company for numerous years before taking a break to concentrate on being a mum. Michelle joined the Admin Team on 1st March 2017.

June Gregory – Admin Assistant

June has worked as an administrative assistant for over 30 years, firstly for a financial corporation in Scotland and then the Civil Service after moving south of the border. June joined the Turton team in 2010.

Sean Dale –  Principal Building Control Surveyor

Sean is a time served bricklayer.  Prior to starting in building control, he has worked in site management and ran a building company.  He joined East Lindsey District Council Building Control in 2002 as a Trainee Building Control Officer, he spent 14 years with the authority progressing to the role of Senior Consultant Surveyor. Sean moved into private building control in 2016 working in the domestic, commercial, and retail sectors. Sean joined Turton Building Control in 2021 providing a customer focused, efficient and effective approach to achieving regulatory compliance.  Sean is a chartered member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers and an applicant member of the Chartered Institute of Building.

Sadie Lakin – Assistant Building Control Surveyor

Sadie joined Turton Building Control in 2019 to start her apprenticeship as a Building Control Surveyor, prior to this Sadie carried out a BTEC qualification in Construction in the Built Environment. Sadie has now progressed to an Assistant Building Control Surveyor whilst undertaking study towards her degree with the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) and is en-route to becoming a Charted Surveyor in the near future.

James Lawton – Building Control Surveyor

MCABE

James started his career in construction working for a large construction company as Site Manager in mixed projects including new house building and commercial projects for 10yrs. He then moved to Lincoln City Council to join City of Lincoln Council Building Control. He gained valuable experience working in this sector in domestic projects during his 8 years there. Since joining Turton Building Control in 2020 he has built up a good report with clients and builders.

Martin Elliott– Building Control Surveyor

BSc (Hons), ACABE

After graduating with BSc Hons in Building Surveying from Sheffield Hallam University, Martin started his career in Local Authority Building Control in 2017 with Hertfordshire Building Control as a Trainee Building Control Officer.  In 2018 he relocated and took on a position with East Midlands Building Consultancy, covering a variety of projects as one of the area surveyors for the Rushcliffe district. Martin joined us at Turton Building Control in April 2023 and is now working towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor.
